Even a month after the Pathankot terror attack, Pakistan has said that there is no headway in the investigation into the terror strike. The probe team of Pakistan has said that the evidence provided by India is not enough and has sought more evidence for the investigation.
A federal government team in Pakistan which is investigating the Pathankot airbase attack has asked the foreign ministry to seek more evidence from India. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had formed the six-member investigation team in the second week of January to look into India's allegations that Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was behind the Pathankot attack.
India has maintained that they have provided several proofs to Pakistan, including call records, which reveal the hand of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar in the Pathankot terror attacks. The Foreign Secretary-level talks between the two countries have been put on hold as India wants Pakistan to act against the perpetrators of the attack before going ahead with any dialogue.
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also recently admitted that the attacks have derailed the Indo-Pak dialogue. "Talks with India were progressing but the Pathankot attack has affected the dialogue process," he said on Saturday.
He also said that the findings of the probve will be made public. "Whatever facts come out we will bring them forth before everyone," he said, adding that Pakistan would go to “any length" to uncover the alleged use of its soil (in the Pathankot incident). It is our responsibility to uncover if our soil was used in the attack. We will do this and the ongoing investigation will be completed soon," he claimed.
Sources in the Indian government say that Indo-Pak talks can continue if some progress is made in the probe into the Pathankot case. As per sources, sufficient evidence has been given to Pakistan to act and remain India's partner in fighting terror.
Earlier, Pakistan High Commissioner had assured that if India gives them proper evidence, Pakistan will soon act against the Jaish-e-Mohammad chief. "If Pakistan team get proper evidence, then I am confident that Masood Azhar will not meet the same fate as Lakhvi. I can assure you that no individual or organization will be spared," he said.
Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi who is accused of planning the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, is still running scot-free despite India providing multiple proofs to Pakistan over his role in the attacks.
