BALANGIR: Three personnel of Jana Kalyan Yuva Parishad, a voluntary organisation, have been detained for alleged embezzlement of money in the name of facilitating linkage of SHGs with banks for corpus fund. They are programme coordinator Santosh Kumar Patra, area in-charge Kaushik Gurandi and collection agent Nalini Suna. Police said more arrests are likely. On a tip off, cops swooped down on the NGO and found that funds collected from the SHGs had not been deposited in their bank accounts and there was no sign of the promised linkage. Rather the funds were reflected in a passbook of the NGO. While preliminary investigation has revealed embezzlement of ` 80,000, Balangir SP Awinish Kumar said only accounts of SHGs of two villages have been verified. The amount will go up once investigation of SHGs in other villages is done, he added.
