New Delhi: A bitter war of words has broken out between two veteran Bollywood actors Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher after the former questioned the latter's campaign for displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
Shah took a pot shot at Kher questioning his campaign saying he was neither born in Kashmir nor does he live there. "A person who has never lived in Kashmir has started a fight for Kashmiri Pandits. Suddenly, he became a displaced person," Shah said.
Kher later hit back at Shah questioning the logic of his comments. He said by that logic NRIs should not think about India. "Shah Saab ki Jai Ho. By that logic NRIs should not think about India at all," Kher tweeted.
Kher, a Kashmiri Pandit, said his roots are in the Valley and he doesn't have to prove it to anyone. "I have great regard for Naseerudin Shah. I don't think the comment was made by him but seems it was attributed to him by someone. My roots are in Kashmir. I don't want to prove my credential of being a Kashmiri Brahmin. It's a very insensitive statement, I don't think such a statement befits from a person like him," he said.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit also took Kher's side and targeted Shah. "Shah also did not live in Gujarat. Then why did he raise the voice against Gujarat riots?"
Kher has been supporting the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley.
