Bhubhaneshwar/ Bangalore: N R Narayana Murthy on Monday blamed the Karnataka state government for the murder of a call centre employee in Bangalore.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary of the Infosys Development Centre in Bhubaneshwar, the face of the Indian IT industry claimed that murder was not an isolated incident as the law and order situation in Karnataka was bad.
The chief mentor of Infosys said that the corporates must ensure safety for women.
"The drivers who pick them up and drop the must be know people, they must be traceable," Murthy said.
"They must be bonafide employees of the firm that provides the transportation," he added.
Speaking about the poor security situation in the state, he said that we should remember that the state has to create a sense of law and order and a feeling among the public that the police would take tough action against the culprits who are involved in such untoward incidents.
Meanwhile, the city police is to meet representatives of the BPO industry to talk about safety of women employees on Tuesday.
Police Commissioner of Bangalore, Dr Ajai Singh, admits that while the call centers have to be more careful, the ultimate responsibility for protecting citizens lies with the police.
"Responsibility is squarely on us. There's an urgent need for mobile patrolling vans. We donts have one per station, we need more mobile vans", he says.
Bangalore is a city that was considered relatively safe for women, but the recent incident has shaken people's faith in the state's law and order.
