Namma Bengaluru Award is back
The award recognises extra-ordinary contributions to Bengaluru by ordinary citizens.

BANGALORE: The Namma Bengaluru Awards, instituted with the objective of recognising extra-ordinary contributions to Bengaluru by ordinary citizens of the city, is back again and citizens can nominate the person they think are worthy of the awards. In its third consecutive year, it is a first-of-its-kind in India where citizens of the city nominate their real heroes.

Over the last many years Bangalore has seen an unprecedented growth -- with a consequent loss of culture and most importantly the sense of belonging. It is time to bring back the sense of belonging  and therefore it would be appropriate to recognise those who have been working to keep the spirit of Bangalore alive.

The Awards urges citizens to nominate their heroes and exemplary individuals or organisations who have contributed and made a difference to the city with their selfless service. It has evoked considerable interest and enthusiasm among Bengalureans whose overwhelming response resulted in more than 14,000 nominations in 2010.

Any Bengalurean can nominate any individual for the Award and the winner of the award is selected on the quality of work done and not by the number of nominations received. It is an opportunity for the citizens to express their gratitude and honour the services of those who have been working selflessly to make a positive contribution.

Namma Bengaluru Awards 2011 will be judged by an eminent panel of jury comprising former Lokayukta justice Santosh Hegde, Dr Anil Menon, Padmashree Anitha Reddy, Ashok Kamath,  Ashok Soota, Dr Ashwin Mahesh, K Jairaj, R K Misra and Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Two non-governmental organisations Bangalore Cares and Samhita Social Ventures too have joined hands with the Namma Bengaluru Foundation to provide unconditional support to the winners and will partner with them and guide them to execute their ideas.

MP and chairman of the awards jury, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, “At a time, when citizens are being buffeted by news every day of corruption and increasingly feel let down, Bangloreans have a reason to be proud of its heroes who are devoted to our city. On our par, it is important that we recognise, salute, respect and be inspired by these heroes.”

The last date for sending nominations is Dec 10. Send in your nomination at www.namma-bengaluru.org.
