CHENNAI: Music scholar Prof BS Vijayaraghavan and eminent Bharatanatyam dancer Prof CV Chandrasekar were conferred the title of Sangitakala Jyothi by Suswaraa Trust in the city on Monday. Teacher and musician Prof B Krishnamurthy and musicologist Dr Arimalam Padmanabhan were presented the Gnana Saraswathipeeth Puraskar during the event.Dancer Nandini Ramani said that the award had been instituted by an organisation headed by a musician of repute, Dr T Lokanadhan Sarma. “Classical music and dance across India are the same. They have been regionalised,” noted Arimalam Padmanabhan, adding that the difference in music styles across South Asia was like having many dialects for the same language.Presenting the awards, music composer Deva, and president of the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram said performers of a light music show required several instruments to maintain tempo, but classical singers could create wonders only their tampura.
