MPs pay homage to martyrs of 2001 terror attack on Parliament
On February 9, Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged at 8 am inside Delhi's Tihar Jail.

New Delhi: Members of Parliament on Friday paid homage to the martyrs of the 2001 terror attack on Parliament. Today is the 12th anniversary of the terror attack. Nine people, including eight security personnel, were killed in the December 13, 2001 terror attack on Parliament.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj and senior MPs of all political parties paid their tribute to the martyrs on Friday morning.

Senior BJP leader Sushma tweeted, "13 December - My respects to the martyrs who laid down their lives defending the Parliament this day."

On February 9, Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged at 8 am inside Delhi's Tihar Jail.

In the attack, five heavily armed gunmen said to be Pakistanis - Islamabad denies the charge - stormed Parliament and opened indiscriminate fire, killing nine people instantly.

The victims included five Delhi Police personnel, a woman Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper, two Parliament watch and ward staff and a gardener. A journalist who was injured died later. All five terrorists were shot dead.
