BANGALORE: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Naukara Kendriya Sangha in association with Dr Solanki’s Eye hospital, a unit of Mahaveer Eye hospitals, conducted a free eye screening camp for BBMP employees at their office on Tuesday. The camp was inaugurated by S Harish, Deputy Mayor of Bangalore. The employees were screened for Diabetic Retinopathy, Hypertensive Retinopathy through a camera made for retinal examination.“People generally are unaware of the kind of eye problems they face and they do not have the time to visit a specialist. Camps like these are meant for creating more awareness among the people,” clarified Dr Narpat Solanki, chairman, Dr Solanki’s Eye hospital, while stating the reason behind taking this eye camp to the work place. He also added that people above the age of forty are likely to possess an eye problem that needs immediate attention. Diabetic patients, especially, must consider an eye check up, he asserted.The camp conducted specially for BBMP employees, saw a basic eye check up along with glaucoma and diabetes tests and also provided them with a prescription. “Other camps usually ask us to go visit a specialist for an eye check up. “I’m happy that they have given me the prescription right here,” said Chinnagiri, a BBMP employee after his check-up. But buying spectacles and eye medicines is an expensive affair for these employees. “We have submitted a memorandum to the Mayor asking for the allocation of funds to buy spectacles for the employees,” said Babu, General Secretary, BBMP Workers Federation. S Harish, Deputy Mayor, also clarified that the corporation will try and arrange funds to buy spectacles for the employees. Speaking to City Express, he said that these workers take care of the health of the entire city and that it is important to take care of their health through such camps.
