New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said the proposed monorail service in East Delhi will be extended to more areas against the earlier plan of covering around 11 kilometres.
Dikshit said government will also introduce small taxis being developed by certain manufacturers to improve transport communication in congested areas in East Delhi where extension of metro network is not feasible.
"The city government has decided to chalk out a plan to extend monorail services in more localities under trans-Yamuna area," she said adding the government has already given in-principle approval for commissioning of a monorail route connecting Shastri Park to Trilok Puri.
The monorail link between Shastri Park and Trilokpuri will have 12 stations and it is expected to attract a daily ridership of around 1.5 lakh.
Dikshit was speaking after inaugurating a community centre at Ghonda.
Promising to further improve transport infrastructure in East Delhi, Dikshit said a number of newly-constructed flyovers in the area has eased the traffic flow.
Reiterating the commitment of her government to continue developmental works in trans-Yamuna areas, she said with completion of the third phase of Delhi Metro a number of routes and stations will be commissioned in the area.
