ALUVA: Excise Minister K Babu has alleged that the previous Left Front government had ignored ayurvedic doctors in the 9th Pay Revision Commission Report for the state. He said this during the inaugural function of the Private Ayurveda College Teachers Organisation (PACTO) held here recently. The decision of the previous government to allow traditional practioners over 38 years of age to practise as registered ayurvedic doctors would have far-reaching adverse effect on the system, he said. Since ayurvedic doctors, holding degree in the field, opposed the move, the government must have denied them any pay hike, he said.” However, the UDF government would look into the anomalies of the pay commission,” Babu said.With self-financing ayurvedic colleges coming up in the state, the requirement of teachers, too, has increased. Dearth of ayurvedic doctors would lead to mushrooming of quacks in the field. The minister asked doctors and manufacturers of ayurvedic medicines to keep up the credibility in the system. He said he would coordinate with the Forest Department to make available herbal plants used in ayurveda.Babu also released the PACTO logo on the occasion. K P Dhanapalan, MP, launched the PACTO website. “Kerala is famous for its ayurvedic treatment and it is our duty to maintain its quality,” Dhanapalan said.Moreover, Chev T U Kuruvilla, MLA, inaugurated a research project. Anwar Sadath, MLA, released the PACTO newsletter.The meeting was presided over by PACTO president Dr S Ajayan. Dr C Ratnakaran inaugurated the seminar and workshop held in this connection. M Prasad, V G Udayakumar, Vijayan Nangelil, D Ramanathan, P P Bhaskeran, Joji Thachil, R Sreekumar, Reji M Varghese, Sasikumar Nechiyil, Shibu Varghese and M Sajith presented papers at the seminar.
