According to an FPJ report, an unidentified individual had been suspiciously wandering in the Koodan village of Palghar district for the past 3-4. However, no one paid attention as the man appeared to be mentally challenged.
On Thursday, the man suddenly attacked an elderly person with an axe, brutally murdering him, and sat near his corpse. At the same time, the deceased’s brother reached the spot searching for him, who was also fatally attacked by the accused.
The man repeatedly struck him with an axe until he dropped dead. As per reports, after killing the two brothers, the suspect attacked another person outside the house with the axe.
Police arrived at the scene upon being notified of the incident and an additional 150 police force personnel were summoned to nab the accused.
The search operation commenced and the accused was found hiding in the mud pond. The police had to forcibly pull him out and arrest him. The police said that whether the suspect is mentally deranged or not will be determined through a medical examination.
“The accused, who is mentally unstable, attacked the two brothers – Mukund Vithobha Patil (92) and his 84-year-old brother Bhimrao – with a crowbar at a farm in the village. After that, he fled from the spot. The bodies of the two victims were sent to a government hospital after the police reached the spot,” an official was quoted by PTI as saying.
The accused was arrested and a case was registered against him under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 (murder) at the Tarapur police station.
Police said the motive behind the killing is not clear at the moment. An investigation into the case is underway.
