Revi Thomas semi-retired — Oceanarium constructionsI’ve been walking at the Madras Boat Club, every morning since 1976, so it certainly counts as a landmark for me. Back in my college days at MCC, we were also the first in Asia to stage the musical, Jesus Christ Superstar in Chennai. I remember it was packed that night, and there was a protest going on outside. (For those who are unaware, Revi Thomas played the first Superstar in 1971 and he was followed years later by his son, Arjun Thomas who donned the same role in the remake a generation after).Madhumitha Msocial workerWhen I was in college, my friends and I would go to Broken Bridge at Besant Nagar a couple of times every week just to watch the birds and the crabs. We even got caught by the cops on one occasion — just for us girls being there, because it was considered unsafe. So definitely a memorable spot!Ravi SPresident, MMADespite all the changes to the MA Chidambaram stadium, the terracotta roof and frontage of the Madras Cricket Club remain exactly the same. My memories of watching the tied test match (1986) between India and Australia are still fresh in mind. Maninder Singh had to score one run to win, but was given an LBW. Other heritage spots that I recall fondly are the Smidt Memorial on Elliots Beach and the Rajaji Centenary Hall at Anna Salai. It had the most amazing of flight stairs and when I was in school, there were lots of children’s films that were screened there.
