Meet on green buildings in Chennai Wednesday

A one-day workshop, ‘Trends in Green Buildings’, will host well-known renewable energy experts, builders and architects in Chennai on Wednesday.

Organised by The Weekend Leader (www.theweekendleader.com), a pioneer of positive journalism, the workshop will focus on various topics related to green buildings ranging from solar thermal cooling to achieving carbon neutrality and analyzing trends in green residential building complexes.

Leading the resource group would be senior consultants on urban planning, G Dattatri and M G Devasahayam of the NGO, SUSTAIN, J Subramanian, executive director of STUP group of companies, a leading architect; Thirumeni, head of SRM School of Architecture and Interior Design; and David Carun of McGan’s Ooty School of Architecture.

T Chitty Babu, chairman and CEO, Akshaya Private Ltd, and secretary of Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India, National, will deliver the keynote address, while Chitra Vishwanath, a leading practitioner of green technology who heads Biome Environmental Solutions, Bangalore, will speak on “Small Steps, Giant Leaps: Homes and Ecology.”

Vineeta Badawe, designer of India’s highest rated green building and resident director of Chennai based V V Architects Private Limited will deliver a talk on “Towards future Green Buildings: Lessons learned”. Suresh Krishnan, managing director, Isha Homes, will speak on “Trends in Green Residential Complexes.” Deepa Satiyaram, founding Director, En3, a company with India’s largest number of LEED assessed green projects, will speak on “Achieving Carbon Neutrality: A Case Study”.  Sarah Allan, founding Director, Field Work Enterprise, UK, which works towards helping organisations deliver quality in the fields of architecture, urban design and planning will speak on “Creating Sustainable Spaces: Lessons from England”.

Deepak Thakur, Corporate Head, Solar Business Group, Thermax India, a company that has been working on a solar thermal cooling project, will speak on “Solar Hybridised Comfort Cooling Systems - Concept to Reality.”

Ikshut Mundkur, manager-projects, Solar Electric Light Company India will deliver a talk and C N Raghavendran, chairman, LEED India and CII-Indian Green Building Council, Chennai chapter, and partner of CRN, will deliver the valedictory address. Senior Journalist, Sam Rajappa will moderate a panel discussion.
