New Delhi: For the first time the international media have been allowed inside Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba.
Military officials escorted reporters into a recreation yard, where inmates are allowed to spend some time outdoors and even cameras were allowed inside one of the recently built cell blocks.
They were shown medical facilities where prisoners are treated. Officials even justified force feeding of some of the prisoners saying it enabled them to stay healthy.
There have been persistent demands from various quarters for shutting down Guantanamo Bay.
An alleged al-Qaeda operative captured in Kenya and alleged to have participated in a string of attacks in East Africa became the newest prisoner at this remote base because authorities believe he still poses a danger to the US, news agency Associated Press had reported on Thursday.
