KOCHI: The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), SUCI(C) took out a march to Kumbalam Toll Plaza on Tuesday in protest against the re-introduction of toll in Kumbalam Plaza. The activists alleged that the Central Government has been following an anti-people policy by imposing the toll on Kumbalam Toll Plaza. “The Centre has already come up with their new plan on privatisation named ‘Vision 2021’, in which all national highways, state highways and major district roads will be transferred to private monopolists on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis,” said SUCI(C) state secretary C K Lukose.Till now, the state PWD Department was being delinked from its responsibilities. The new step can be seen as an attempt to transfer works like construction of roads, maintenance etc to the private sector. The party workers staged a sit-in when the march was blocked by the police.
