Man runs on treadmill, breaks record
Chilean runner Erwin Valdebenito broke the Guinness record for running 247.68 km on a treadmill for 24 hours.

Chilean Marathon runner Erwin Valdebenito broke the Guinness World Record for the farthest distance run in a 24-hour period on a treadmill on Friday.

Valdebenito ran a total of 247.68 km (154 miles) in downtown Santiago with thousands cheering him on.

"The support of my co-workers at the office, my older brother,

Ulises, my sister, Doris," said a tired but elated Valdebenito after breaking the record.

"Everyone was there so that we could accomplish this and give the country this triumph,” he added.

The previous world record holder was American Christopher Bergland who ran 247.45 km (153.76 miles) in April 2004.

Valdebenito, 43, incorporated a daily run of 42 km to and from his office to train for the event.
