Seats had been rearranged at the Café Coffee Day at Kowdiar to make space for the launch of the Coffee Festival. Near the entrance, a long desk was placed with steel coffee makers, French press, stovetop espresso maker and coffee sachets. Sam Rozario demonstrated with swift expertise, some quick ways to brew a perfect cup of coffee. This is the second year that the Coffee festival has made its way to the city.
“This year we have included a few new varieties of coffee - Mysore Royal, Dark forest and Drizzle. Drizzle is a quick coffee, all you have to do is place the drizzle coffee bag in a cup of hot water,” says Sam, who carries the title, ‘coffee evangelist’.
In this month-long festival, all the customers can lay their hands on a coffee maker and try brewing their own cup of coffee. On completing a trail, they would receive a brewer’s certificate.
Other new attractions are the Vega and Orion coffee makers. Though it is priced slightly on the higher side, this coffee machine assures you fresh coffee of your choice at the press of a button. For those of you who don’t prefer to spend much, there is the option of buying a miniature coffee maker priced at ` 300 which makes around 3 cups of coffee at one go.
“This fest mainly aims at spreading awareness about other types of coffee rather than the usual cappuccino and latte. Though the café culture has been expanding in India, most of us are not acquainted with the intricacies,” Sam adds.
As we wind up the session, Sam tells us a few don’ts to keep in mind while making coffee. “Always store coffee in air tight containers. Make sure you use fresh milk. The water used to brew coffee should be hot, preferably 90-95C. And never ever reheat coffee!”
The fest is on at all the three Coffee Day outlets in the city.
