Thane: A man allegedly stabbed 14 members of his family before committing suicide near Thane on Sunday. The incident took place around 1 AM in Kasarwadi, Maharashtra.
According to police, Hasnil Warerkar allegedly murdered 7 children, 6 women including his wife and a male relative before committing suicide. Police said that all members were sedated and then killed with a knife. The accused was found hanging with knife in his hand.
One of Warerkar's sister has survived the attack and is in a private hospital undergoing treatment. Police hope that she will be able tell reason behind the gruesome act.
"There is only one survivor. We haven't recorded her statement yet as she is in a state of shock," said Joint Commissioner of Police, Thane, Ashutosh Dumre.
"Hasnil Warerkar used to work for the income tax department where we will carry out more investigations. The biggest problem is that right now, only one of the sisters survived and she too is married not living here anymore. As of now she is in a shock. It is quite possible that this is an internal family matter, but it is difficult to confirm anything at this point," said Dumre
"One of the sister was shouting 'please save me'. We went there and tried to break the door but she said don't come inside as he has a knife and he might kill you too. So we ran and called the police for help," said a resident.
Senior officers including Thane Commissioner Parambir Singh reached the spot after a local called the police.
The bodies have been sent to Thane Civil Hospital for post-mortem, Thane police PRO Gajanan Kabdule said, adding investigation is on.
Shocked over the incident, another resident said, "It is a very sad accident. Nobody knows why he killed the members but the man was a very nice guy. We are also shocked as the man had no quarrel or fight ever."
