THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three men were injured in a collision involving two lorries at Kazhakkoottam on Wednesday morning. Although the men were not seriously injured, the accident resulted in a major traffic snarl in the area. The collision occurred in front of the Al U-thuman School around 6 am. A concrete mixer truck collided with a mini lorry and overturned on the National Highway blocking traffic for hours causing snarls from Kariavattom to Mangalapuram. The front portion of the mini lorry was irreparably damaged in the collision. Only the smaller vehicles could pass this way in the morning. More destruction was averted as there were no other vehicles on the road when the mixer lorry overturned. The driver of mini lorry, Michael, 23, of Koloor, Thrissur; driver of the concrete mixer lorry Sandeep of Thrissur and cleaner Sajeev, 25, were admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College with injuries. According to Medical College officials, the injuries were not serious.Death at Out Patient wingRetnamma, 70, a patient who was brought to the Out Patient wing of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Wednesday, died some minutes later, hospital officials said. Retnamma is a resident of the Manaacaud Colony in the city.
