BANGALORE: The High Court on Monday issued notice to State Government in a lock-up death case.A single bench headed by Justice B S Patil, hearing the petition filed by Chandraiah, issued the notice. The petitioner alleged that his son Shashikiran died in the police station on January 23 in Somwarpet unable to bear the police torture. He further stated that police have booked a case but the medical reports stated that during his arrest, he had minor injuries on his leg.Shashikiran had a fight with Vanajakshi, a resident of Somwarpet, on January 22 and later she had filed a complaint with the police. He was arrested following the complaint. During the arrest, Shashikiran had a minor leg injury and the police had taken him to hospital for treatment and brought him back to station. Shashikiran died in the police station on Jan 23. After continued protest from the local people, the DySP conducted an inquiry and his report said that he did not die of police torture, instead, he died due to fight with Vanajakshi. However, Shashikiran’s father Chandraiah who is also an eye witness in the case questioned this and filed a petition on the irregularities during the investigation. He alleged that his son had sustained minor injuries in the fight. The court adjourned the hearing.
