CHENNAI: A father-son duo of Porur was arrested by the police for allegedly smuggling liquor from Puducherry and selling them in TASMAC bottles at their wine bars in Tiruvallur district.Acting on information, a special police team led by S Jayakumar, DCP, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, raided an address at Kaveri Nagar in Karambakkam and seized 59 Pondicherry ‘Green Magic’ bottles, 141 brandy bottles, 1,000 original Tamil Nadu excise labels, 1,200 fake ones, 5,000 bogus caps of leading liquor brands and 450 fake labels. The team arrested A Bhaskar (50) and B Ramesh of Second Cross Street at Kaveri Nagar, Karambakkam. During inquiry, it came to light that the accused operated two TASMAC bars at Thamaraipakkam and Vepampattu, Tiruvallur. They bought ‘Green Magic brandy’ from the UT, filled the liquor in TASMAC bottles and sold them for higher rates at their bars. They had earlier been arrested in November 2010 by the PEW. Out on bail only six months ago, they were soon back to their old ways, police said.
