HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress leaders have urged AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad not to field the party candidate in Banswada byelection. The leaders and PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana met Azad at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Sunday and apprised him of the ground level situation prevailing in Telangana. They also informed him of the Telangana Telugu Desam Forum’s willingness to leave the seat uncontested if Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy, who vacated the seat, contested as an independent and not on behalf of the TRS in the bypoll.Azad, according to sources, had asked them whether the TRS would allow Srinivasa Reddy to contest as an independent and said the Congress party leadership would take a final decision on the issue as there is still time for the byelection. The Telangana leaders who met Azad included ministers Basavaraju Saraiah, Danam Nagender, MPs Madhu Yashki, S Rajaiah and Suresh Shetkar, former minister Md Ali Shabber and former speaker KR Suresh Reddy. They wanted the Congress high command to take a decision soon on T issue to prevent erosion of the party base in the region.
