THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Land Revenue Association has urged the State Government to speed up promotions in the Revenue Department and make fresh appointments alleging that the Revenue Department was under-staffed at present. In addition to the regular work, Revenue officials had to take up revision of voters’ lists and work related to the Mass Contact programme of the Chief Minister. It is now a year since promotions were made to the higher posts of deputy collector and tahasildar, Association president P S Rajeev said in a statement here. The Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) was yet to give its stamp of approval for the promotions of hundreds of officials. In addition to these, promotions are also pending to fill vacancies of deputy collectors and tahasildars. On three occasions, reports were sought from officials for the meeting of the DPC. The term of the last report ended on December 31. The situation is such that a fresh report will have to be prepared by the Revenue officials. Work related to revision of voters’ lists and the Mass Contact programme of the Chief Minister had thrust additional burden upon the Revenue Department. Although all government departments were active during the Mass Contact programme, one can only imagine the burden shouldered by Revenue officials who have to receive over four lakh complaints and hand it over to departments concerned and review the progress of work,’’ P S Rajeev said.
