CHENNAI: Former chief minister M Karunanidhi’s grandson and film producer Udayanidhi Stalin appeared for inquiry before the land grab cell here on Thursday. Udayanidhi, son of former deputy chief minister M K Stalin, was questioned by Inspector Kader Batcha when he came to sign the anticipatory bail register at the assistant commissioner’s office. “Police personnel asked me whether I rented the house bought by Venugopal Reddy, one of the accused named in the case, and I answered in the affirmative,” Udayanidhi told reporters after submitting the anticipatory bail copy obtained from a metropolitan magistrate court in Saidapet. Udayanidhi and his aide Rajasankar were granted anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court in connection with the case registered against them in December last. Later Rajasankar surrendered before the magistrate court in Saidapet and secured anticipatory bail. But Udayanidhi approached the Madras High Court and sought extension to the anticipatory bail, as he was away with his family for vacation. The court allowed his petition and asked him to appear before the magistrate court in Saidapet before the second week of January. Accordingly, Udayanidhi on Wednesday surrendered before the XI Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Saidapet and produced the surety before the magistrate. Central Crime Branch sleuths registered a case of cheating against Stalin, Udayanidhi and four others based on the complaint of N Seshadrikumar, a businessman of Alwarpet, alleging that he was forced to sell his two-and-a-half ground property on Chitharanjan Salai in Teynampet for lesser than the market price. Udayanidhi Stalin will appear before the investigation officer in the land grabbing cell every day at 10 am. Meanwhile, his lawyers said they would approach the Madras High Court to relax his bail conditions.
