Two of his accomplices were arrested. The case was filed by the District Crime Branch here on Tuesday. According to police, one Samayal, of Anupanadi, owns 1.43 acres of land in Anupanadi block. Since it was her ancestral property, the elderly woman was not for the sale of the land which was within the site acquired for Velammal Village. The owners had been irrigating the land by using the water from the Solakattai channel, which branches out of the Puliyur Channel.Meanwhile, Muthuramalingam had decided to set up Velammal Village in that pocket and had bought around 60 acres there. Samayal’s land was almost engulfed and she was forced to sell the land for a paltry sum. It was said that Muthuramalingam had also silted the irrigation channel leading to the land of Samayal and had built a compound wall which had completely removed any chance for the actual owners to access their land.Subsequently, Muthuramalingam had prevented the actual owner from taking up any agricultural activity on that land. Based on the findings, a case was registered against Muthuramalingam, his accomplices Thirupathi Venkatesan, and Vijay Anand.
