THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Department of Future Studies of the Kerala University has launched a PG Diploma in Knowledge Management (PGDKM). The programme, being launched under the UGC Innovative Programme, is a one-year postgraduate diploma course.Knowledge management is one of the fastest-growing industries across the globe. According to Evalueserve, a global market research and Intellectual Property services firm and a pioneer in providing Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) Services, KPO is estimated to reach USD 50 billion by 2012, out of which 70 per cent would be outsourced to India. The scope of the new course would be to provide training in the knowledge domain so that the trained manpower can straightaway become part and parcel of the companies concerned. A unique, experienced set of persons from industry and university would be the faculty of the course. Both theory and practical sessions would be offered to the students as part of the course. The students would be given training in software tools on knowledge engineering. Graduates in Engineering/Technology, Medicine, Postgraduates in Science and Applied Sciences with not less than 55 per cent marks for the qualifying examination are eligible for admission to the course. Admission to the course is based on performance in the qualifying degree and the entrance test. Equal weightage would be given for qualifying degree and entrance test. The entrance test will consist of multiple choice questions to test the applicant’s aptitude in databases, data interpretation and analysis, logic and reasoning, comprehension and general awareness.Application can be obtained from the Head of the Department of Future Studies by producing a Demand Draft for Rs 300, including cost of application, from SBT/SBI/District Co-operative Bank drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, Kerala University or a University Challan for Rs. 300. A self-addressed stamped envelope for Rs 10 should be sent along with the request for the application. Application form can also be downloaded from the Kerala University website. The completed applications should reach the Head of the Department on or before June 30. The total course fee is Rs 19,555.
