KOLLAM: Unidentified persons burgled the house of R Krishnakumar, the teacher who was attacked at Valakam junction on September 27, and reportedly took away gold, weighing 79 grams and cash of around Rs 10,000 at Valakam near Kottarakkara.There was no one in the house when the break-in took place and it came to light when a neighbour noticed the gates and door lying open on Sunday morning.Anchal Police said that burglars gained entry into house after breaking the front door lock.The forensic and finger print experts visited the crime scene and a sniffer dog was used to track the route taken by the thieves.Sniffer dog is said to have tracked the route up to 1.5 km and stopped at Kovil junction. The wife of the teacher, A R Geetha, who was along with her husband at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, was informed about the incident and she reached the house by Sunday afternoon.Geetha claimed that burglars broke open a steel safe and took away gold and cash.Earlier, the brother-in-law of the teacher had claimed that certain documents were lost, while the police said that no documents were found missing following the search. Anchal Police are camping at the area.City Police Commissioner T J Jose told ‘Express’ that the burglars seemed to have made a thorough search in shelves of the house. Occupants of couple of houses in the neighbourhood too were away and this might have aided the burglars in breaking open locks of the gates and doors, he said.While it is claimed that gold and cash were missing, electronic equipment and other valuables were not stolen, he added.Theft Bid at Pillai’s HouseMeanwhile, an attempt to burgle the house of Kerala Congress(B) leader R Balakrishna Pillai at Valakam, which is located less than half-a-kilometre from the house of teacher Krishnakumar, was reported on Sunday. There were no occupants at the house and the break-in was found only when the caretaker of the house reached there by Sunday evening. The lock of the front door was found broken in the same fashion as in the teacher’s house. No valuables were found missing in preliminary search. The Anchal SI and team, who were camping at the teacher’s house rushed to the house by around 7.30 p.m. Anchal SI said it was suspected that the same persons were behind both the incidents.
