BHUBANESWAR: The bandh on Tuesday, observed by the Maoists on Kranti Divas to remember one of their slain top leaders Kranti Randev, did not evoke much response in the State. It had little impact in almost all the districts barring the interior pockets of Koraput and Malkangiri. The one-day shutdown affected normal life in the border pockets of Sundargarh district.Shops and business establishments, however, remained open at other places and there was normal traffic on the roads. In fact, all district headquarters were abuzz with activity as political parties observed the Kranti Divas to out do each other.Reports reaching here said that buses were off the roads in the Maoist-hit areas like Motu, Padia, MV-79 and Kalimela of Malkangiri district and Narayanpatna, Bandhugaon and Boipariguda areas of Koraput. The situation, however, was normal and peaceful elsewhere in the State including Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts, the sources said. There was heightened Security in areas bordering Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. In Sundargarh district, long distance bus services to neighbouring Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh from Rourkela remained suspended as a precautionary measure.
