Kolkata: In the Park Street rape case of Kolkata, the bail plea of one of the accused - Sumit Bajaj - will come up for hearing in a court on Wedneday. A 37-year-old woman, who is a mother of two, was allegedly raped at gunpoint in a moving car on February 5, 2012. The woman claimed that she was offered a lift by four men, whom she befriended at a nightclub the same night.
She had managed to track down the culprits on a social networking website and had taken snapshots of their photographs to file a complaint against them. The police managed to crack the case with the help of a CCTV footage from outside Park Hotel which showed the woman getting inside the car with four men, as was originally claimed by the victim.
In a recent controversial statement, Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar had said that the case was not a rape but a misunderstanding between a lady and her client. "If you're referring to the Park Street rape, see that is a different case altogether. That was not at all a rape case. It was a misunderstanding between the two parties involved, between a lady and her client. This was not a rape," Dastidar said while speaking to CNN-IBN. West Bengal Chief Minister had also made a shocking remark when the incident took place in 2012. She had labelled the rape victim a part of a greater conspiracy against her government.
