Beirut (Lebanon): United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan is scheduled to visit war-ravaged Lebanon on Tuesday at the start of an extensive tour aimed at reinforcing the UN-brokered truce.

During his visit, Annan will meet Prime Minister Fuad Siniora and other politicians in Beirut.

He will later visit Israel and the Palestinian territories, as well as Syria, and Iran.

Talks in Lebanon are likely to focus on peacekeeping and Israel's blockade.

Annan may also be asked to help facilitate a prisoner exchange with Israel demanded by Hezbollah.

Regretting his order to kidnap the two Israeli soldiers, Hezbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah earlier said that he would never have done so had he known it would lead to such unrest.

More than 1,100 Lebanese and 159 Israelis died in the 34-day conflict.

Annan has already made clear that UN troops will not be asked to disarm Hezbollah by force.
