Kandahar: The Taliban say deadly bomb attacks in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar are a warning to NATO's top General as he plans a major offensive against the insurgents in the region.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi said Sunday by telephone that the bombings show their fighters are ready for the offensive in their heartland around Kandahar province.
A separate, Taliban-linked website said the bombings, which killed at least 35 people, were a "warning" to NATO General Stanley McChrystal.
The US General has said Kandahar province is the next target for coalition forces who recently drove the insurgents from a town in neighboring Helmand province.
The bomb attacks on Saturday night killed 35 people but failed to free insurgents from the city prison.
