TIRUVARUR: DMK’s district secretary Poondi Kalaivanan and six others were remanded in judicial custody till August 17 by the Thiruthuraipoondi sub-magistrate court on Wednesday morning for allegedly attacking and damaging a store, and threatening to kill the owner of the shop, Ramesh, on July 30.The judge also ordered that the seven be lodged in the Palayamkottai Central Jail, where they were initially sent on July 31 for allegedly causing the death of a student during an agitation over the uniform system of school education (USE).Based on Ramesh’s complaint, Thiruthuraipoondi Inspector Mutharasu went to the Palayamkottai Central Jail on Tuesday and made a fresh arrest of Kalaivanan and the others to produce them before the Thiruthuraipoondi sub-magistrate court on Wednesday morning.The chief judicial magistrate court here had on Tuesday evening granted the se­ven conditional bail in the case of the boy’s death. But police arrested them the next morning even before the bail order reached them.They were earlier arrested on the charge that they were responsible for the death of Vijay of Manjakollai, who died on July 29 when a government bus in which he was heading home after participating in an protest demanding the implementation of USE met with an accident.
