BANGALORE: Amidst the chaos in which the ruling BJP finds itself placed in the aftermath of the exit of B S Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister, the JD(S) has silently started preparations for snap polls to the Assembly."It is cent per cent sure that the state will witness snap polls to the Assembly given the everincreasing gap among various sections of the BJP. In this situation, the government will not complete its term... So, we have begun preparing the party for the eventuality," JD(S) MLC and general secretary Y S V Datta told Express here on Tuesday. As a first step, a small team of party's election strategists will meet twice in a week to assess the ground situation of every constituency. "In the 2008 Assembly elections, we had won 28 seats. We had lost in a margin of 5,000 to 10,000 votes in about 36 constituencies by coming to second position. In another 47 constituencies, we had come second, though the margin of defeat was more than 15,000. We will keep in mind these factors when we chalk out our election strategy," Datta explained.Secondly, the local leadership in these constituencies will be strengthened by including people from all sections of the society as members of the local unit. After this, booth committees will be formed. Simultaneously, the local leaders will be told to chalk out agitational programmes against the BJP government's misdeeds."The JD(S) wants to take advantage of the sense of disappointment prevailing among the people. Being among the masses by taking up their causes is the best strategy to face elections," Datta explained.Asked if the JD(S) would welcome possible return of some leaders from the BJP, Datta said, "We will cross the bridge when it comes."
