New Delhi: The controversy over the issue of reservation for Muslims hotted up with JD(U) opposing any such move while senior Congress Minister A R Antulay said he wants justice to minorities and an end to discrimination.

"Justice has not been done to Muslims. The same yardstick for non-minorities should be used for minorities. I am asking for justice, not any generosity," Antulay, Minister for Minority Affairs, said on Tuesday.

His comments came close on the heels of JD(U) Chief Sharad Yadav, in a surprise statement, opposing reservation for Muslims, a demand in which it sees an attempt to finish the quota regime.

"Such demands (to extend reservation to Muslims) are out to demolish the very basis on which policy of reservation was conceived." Yadav told reporters.

Attacking the BJP for its charge of minority appeasement on the Congress-led coalition, he said such charges were baseless and born out of ignorance of who constituted the minorities.

He contended that Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir were a minority. "There should be no needless twist given to the it". The former Maharashtra Chief Minister said that the concept of creamy layer for SC, ST and OBCs was being "misutilised, misused and ill-defined".
