Jaya urges PM to notify Cauvery Tribunal's final order
Jayalalithaa said the Cauvery Monitoring Committee on December 7 said that the Tribunal's final order should be notified not later than the end of December.

Chennai: Citing an order of the apex court, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday urged Prime Minister Mammohan Singh to expedite the notification of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final order before the end of this month.

In a letter to Manmohan Singh, the text of which was released to the media here, Jayalalithaa said that the Supreme Court in its December 10 order, had taken on record the proceedings of the 31st Meeting of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee, wherein it has been stated by the central water resources secretary, that the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal will be notified before the end of December 2012.

It was also announced that the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee would be constituted.

"In the circumstances, I request you to expedite the notification of the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and also to constitute the Cauvery Management Board forthwith so as to safeguard the livelihood of the farmers of Tamil Nadu," Jayalalithaa added.

Recalling her earlier communication to the prime minister on the subject, she said the counsel for all the states in the Cauvery basin including Karnataka said at the apex court on December 5, 2012 that the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal is yet to be notified.

She said the Cauvery Monitoring Committee on December 7 said that the Tribunal's final order should be notified not later than the end of December.
