Jammu and Kashmir: 2 terrorists killed in an encounter in Shopian district

Srinagar: Two terrorists have been killed on Wednesday in a gunfight which is still going on between the security forces and holed up guerrillas in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

"Following specific intelligence reports about the presence of two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Shermaal village (Shopian), troops surrounded the village on Tuesday evening," a senior police officer said.

"When the security forces closed on the hiding terrorists, they resorted to indiscriminate firing triggering an encounter. One of the hiding terrorists has been killed so far," the officer said.

The operation which was stopped on Tuesday evening due to darkness in the area was re-started on Wednesday morning, the officer added.
