HYDERABAD: Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy did not get any reprieve from the special CBI court which dismissed his bail petition on Friday even as the AP High Court deferred to Saturday its verdict on a CBI petition for his custody. The High Court also reserved its orders on three other petitions, two of them filed by Jagan challenging his arrest and against his judicial remand by the court. The much-awaited judgement on Jagan's bail petition was delivered Friday evening with principal special judge A Pullaiah dismissing it. The judge concurred with the CBI's contention that the Kadapa MP might tamper with the evidence as he is an influential man. Though Jagan's counsel argued that he cannot be denied bail just because he is an influential person, the CBI apprehended that he would tamper with evidence if set free.Meanwhile, Jagan's counsel filed a memo in the CBI court asking that his earlier plea for interim bail not be considered. The counsel had sought interim bail -- if the court did not want to enlarge him on bail -- so that the MP could continue his electioneering, .In the High Court, the arguments went on throughout the day over four petitions, two each filed by the CBI and Jagan's counsel.Seeking 10-day custody of Jagan, the agency said the MP's arrest was not a case of political vendetta nor for a political purpose. Jagan had not cooperated with the investigating agency during his three-day custody and "we got some vital information during the questioning of industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, IRAS officer K V Brahmananda Reddy and former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao," the CBI informed the court. The CBI also said it would not have an opportunity to take the accused into custody after the initial 14-day judicial custody comes to an end. Justice B Chandra Kumar reserved the matter for orders on Saturday. Jagan's counsel argued that the CBI is seeking the custody of the MP only to terrorise him.
