Ishrat Jahan's sister Musarrat Jahan has dismissed the revelation made by Pakistani American terrorist David Coleman Headley that her sister was a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist.
"My sister was innocent," said Musarrat while speaking to CNN-IBN.
She reiterated that Ishrat Jahan's death was part of a large conspiracy with big names involved in the alleged fake encounter.
Asserting that investigations had proved the encounter fake, Musarrat said that "a terrorist" cannot be trusted.
Ishrat Jahan's lawyer Vrinda Grover said that Headley's version was not evidence in accordance with Indian law, as he was given a "multiple choice question" by a "Padma Shri" lawyer.
She said that Ishrat Jahan was murdered in cold blood, even as she narrated the sequence of questions and answers between public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and Headley.
According to the lawyer, Headley's statement could not be taken on record as he didn't name Ishrat Jahan himself, but after multiple choice options given to him.
The incident had occurred in 2004 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah was the state Home Minister.
Shah's name had cropped up in the Ishrat Jahan alleged fake encounter case. The CBI, however, in 2014 gave a clean chit to the BJP president citing insufficient evidence. The CBI had submitted that Shah was not named in the FIR.
