New Delhi: Union Minister for IT and Communications Dayanidhi Maran on Sunday said that with a global market share of over 10 per cent in IT, India was sure to outdo China by the year 2042.

He was speaking at the graduation day of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College in Chennai.

He said that the industry friendly atmosphere in Tamil Nadu has attracted many foreign investors, who are setting up factories not only in Chennai but also across the state.

"This has given the state the name `Detroit of India'. Students should make use of these opportunities and do things differently rather than doing different things, without losing their identity, PTI quoted him as saying.

India's booming IT and ITeS sector is estimated to have hired 3,80,000 people during the current financial year as demand for technology talent gained further momentum.

The information technology (IT) sector took on board 180,000 people and information technology-enabled services (ITeS) 200,000 on a gross basis in 2006-07 (April-March), according to industry estimates.

The country's top four software exporters among themselves—TCS (35,000), Infosys (30,000), Wipro (28,000) and Satyam (20,000)—accounted for 1,13,000 during the 12-month period, industry sources said.
