Foresters rescued the tigress after hitting her with an anaesthetic injection.

An eight-year-old Tiger was recently nabbed by forest officials at Malali in HD Kote taluk in Mysuru district, Karnataka. The Tiger was rescued after it created havoc in the village. It was hiding at a banana plantation in the village. Barely 48 hours after the villager took a sigh of relief, another big cat was spotted at the same spot on Monday, April 6. Foresters rescued it after an eight-hour operation. A team of forest officials, led by the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve (NTR) director Harshakumar Chikkanaragund rescued the Tigress, who is believed to be six years old.

The Tigress was spotted by the villagers on Monday morning at a plantation near the Metikuppe forest range in the Taluk. They rushed to the place along with the Dasar elephants, Mahendra and Bheema. They carried out the rescue operation with the help of a veterinary doctor H Ramesh. Assistant conservator of forests KN Rangaswamy, range forest officer Bharata Talawar, S D Madhu and K N Harshith led the operation.

To protect the villagers from the tiger, Mysuru district police provided security cover and ensured that people did not disrupt the operation. They rescued the Tigress after hitting the big cat with the anaesthetic injection. The Tigress was radio-collared and released into the forest after conducting the health check.

According to the forest officials, the village is located close to the forest area and Kabini backwaters, therefore tigers are often spotted in the adjacent areas during the mating season.

In February, earlier this year, the personnel of the forest department rescued a five-year-old Tiger in a newly designed walk-through cage installed at Chikkanahalli Reserve forest. The rescue operation ran for 79 days. The tiger had created anxiety among people after its movement was traced in the Mysuru region. The tiger was found fit and healthy, informed K N Basavaraju, Deputy Conservator of Forests Mysuru Territorial Division.
