The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday tabled a report in the House with as many as 23 names of VIPs.

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday tabled a report in the House with as many as 23 names of VIPs, who it says, own illegal constructions in Delhi.

But the report was not made public. This led to total chaos in the House. This scene seems to be symbolic of what the MCD is going through these days: Utter chaos and confusion.

The mayor called a special session of the House on Monday to discuss the action taken on the list of unauthorised and illegal constructions in VIP properties.

But with the excuse that the matter is sub judice, the MCD tabled the report but did not make it public, leaving many people angry.

Says Subash Arya, MCD councillor, "The High Court had earlier directed the MCD to target those in power and to submit an action taken report by January 31. The MCD had filed an affadavit in the High Court on Saturday. The list contains 23 names of VIPs, out of which 21 have been issued show-cause notices."

In Nizammudin East, the property of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has been among the properties on the MCD's offendors' list.

Others on the list include Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ram Babu Sharma, Speaker of the House Choudhury Prem Singh, Mayor Satbir Singh and four cabinet ministers.

The Cabinet Ministers under the scanner are Urban Developmenmt Minster A K Walia, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri and Minister for Industries Mangat Ram Singhal.

But the offenders are protesting saying that if 612 colonies are unauthorised, why just pick on them out of all these colonies and punish them?

Others say that their ancestors built these houses and how they they be held responsible for them?

The Delhi Congress has been caught on the backfoot on this issue.

The MCD list has turned the spotlight on Delhi's political establishment where offendors from both the Congress and the BJP have violated building bylaws.

What's your reaction?
