New Delhi: In a leg-up to journalism training in regional languages, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has decided to upgrade its existing Urdu course to a post-graduate diploma besides launching new courses in Marathi and Malayalam.
“There was a certificate program in Urdu but some students of Urdu journalism came to us saying that employers are looking for full -fledged diploma courses – the move of up-gradation was taken to enable the students of Urdu journalism to gain jobs. We did not wait till the next academic session but implemented the change from this session itself. It is going to be beneficial for them,” KG Suresh, director-general of IIMC, told News18.
IIMC presently conducts a six month Diploma Course in Urdu Journalism at its Delhi campus, which was introduced in the academic year 2013-14.
The language specific classes in Urdu will be conducted through the guest faculty.
An academic assistant is also being taken on contract basis to support the faculty in discharge of the work related to the upgraded course in the Urdu Journalism field.
The fee structure for PG Diploma Course in Urdu journalism may be the same as the Odia course conducted in Dhenekal campus.
The executive council meeting of the institute also approved the introduction of PG Diploma courses in Marathi from IIMC’s Amravati Campus and PG Diploma in Malayalam from the Kottayam Campus to promote regional language media.
