Gujarat and its culture came alive in Abhishek Kapoor's 'Kai Po Che' and got the nod from the readers for its detailed screenplay. With 45% votes, Pubali Chaudhari, Supratik Sen, Abhishek Kapoor and Chetan Bhagat were adjudged as the big winners in the Screenplay category for the film 'Kai Po Che'.
'Kai Po Che's' story was set in Ahmedabad and revolved around three friends who were innocent, but were becoming more aware of the fast changing situation around them. The book on which the film was based took the liberty of moving from one scene to another at a leisurely pace, but all those sequences had to be confined within a limited space on screen. The characterization done by Chetan Bhagat would have helped them, but the cinematic sensibilities were brought in by the screen writers only.
On the second spot was Ritesh Batra for 'The Lunchbox' which got approximately 25.8% votes for bringing alive a love story of two strangers linked because of a lunchbox. The film, mostly based on conversation between the lead characters had a tricky screenplay. The flow had to be maintained as it did not have songs and item numbers. Basically, it was everything is about characterisation and how it came out on the screen.
Sameer Gautam Singh, Apurva Asrani, Hansal Mehta's work in 'Shahid' fetched 19.2% votes. The critically appreciated film was loved by one and all and the film's screenplay played a key role in making the visuals engaging for the viewers. The others in the category were Fukrey(6.9%) and 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti' (4%).
