Hyderabad: 2 kids die, mother survives suicide bid

Hyderabad: Two children were found dead under suspicious circumstances at Shankarpally in Ranga Reddy district late on Monday night and their widowed mother was also found unconscious in the same house. Though police suspect that the woman, Usha Rani, administered poison to her children and herself in a suicide pact, the villagers suspect Rani’s in-laws’ involvement. They allegedly beat up the woman’s mother-in-law Manemma and others.

Police shifted Rani to a nearby hospital where her condition is said to be stable. They found a note in the house purportedly written by Rani, in which she stated that she was taking the extreme step unable to bear her husband’s death.

Rani was married to Kannappa of Kondakal village. The couple had two children, three-year-old Nandini and six-months old Jyotsna. Kannappa, who used to run a kirana store in the village, died six months back and Rani was depressed since then. “We (my children and I) will go to my husband,” said the suicide note of Usha Rani.

However, when questioned as to who poisoned her children Rani did not give any answer, police said. With allegations of her in-laws’ involvement, police registered a case of suspicious death and the investigation is on.
