In a sensational overnight operation, sleuths of the Excise Department, with the help of Revenue and Police officials, confiscated ` one crore worth raw materials used in bootlegging that were found hoarded in a house here on Friday.
It is said, Kottucherry police received a tip-off that the raw materials were hoarded in a house at Radhakrishnan Road, Karaikal Ammaiyar Nagar and a board displayed at the house mentioned the name of a DMK leader and industrialist G M Vasudevan.
Police alerted the Excise Department. A special squad comprising Sub Collector A Muthamma, Assistant Collector (Trainee) Pradip Kumar Singh and officials of the Revenue and Police Departments, landed at the house at Thursday midnight.
Finding the front door locked, they broke open the rear door and gained entry.
The squad detected a huge stock of liquor cans, raw materials, flavouring and colouring agents in various rooms, besides spirit packed in 17 cans of 35 litres capacity each, together valued at `one crore.
The whole seizure, on the orders of the Sub Collector, was removed to the Office of the Excise Department on Friday morning. He assured of stringent action will be taken.
