Thadikade, Kerala: If it was Kutty's family few days ago, it is the family of Malyalee P Naushad this time to face crises from overseas.
Naushad, a salesman in Saudi Arabia, has been convicted by a Shariyat Court there for picking up a fight with a Saudi youth thereby damaging his eye.
The Court has ordered his eye be gouged out to compensate for the Saudi youth's loss, sending shock waves across his hometown in Kerala.
The only difference, this time, is that victim is lodged in a prison in Saudi Arabia, for a crime he says was accidental.
Naushad may loose his eye for a "crime" inflicted on a Saudi national. But for his family, he is the sole breadwinner.
They are already struggling to make ends meet with two children and the decision comes as a big blow to their limited means.
The only hope for the family, his wife says, is Naushad's safe return.
"This happened in 2003 and since we have been waiting hoping that Naif would pardon him, but the court's decision has come us a shock for us. It will destroy all our lives. Without an eye I cannot imagine how my husband will live. We appeal to the India and Saudi government's to help us in this matter. He has not even seen his younger daughter. We can only pray to Allah and hope he will come back safe," Suhela Beevi, his wife said.
Naushad had told the Shariyat court that he acted in self-defence and the injury was accidental.
Even his neighbours testify that Naushad is not an aggressive person.
"I can't believe that he has been jailed for violence. He was a very peaceful man," Fatima, a neighbour, said.
While family members wait anxiously for Naushad's return, his two-year old daughter is unaware of the crisis and his six-year old son sits holding his father's photo, not knowing what's in store.
