KOCHI: The authorities of the locked out Hindalco Industries Ltd, Kalamassery, of the Aditya Birla Group, on Thursday said that they would present a proposal on wage hike to Labour Minister Shibu Baby John on Wednesday.The management announced its decision after holding talks for over two and half hours in the presence of Labour Minister Shibu Baby John, Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammad, Works Minister V K Ebrahimkunju, union leaders and others.Considering the suggestion made by the Labour Minister, the management decided to restore payment of wages to 36 nonstriking stay home employees who were not getting their salary from May. They were being paid the salary as they were not taking part in the strike. The management had abruptly stopped paying their salary in May. They will also be given school advance.The others who took part in the meeting included T T Antony, Labour Commissioner, R Dulkhad, company chief operating officer, Anil Sinha, president, HR, trade union leaders V D Satheesan, general secretary, INTUC, K N Gopinath, general secretary, CITU, C M Hamid, Independent union general secretary. The union sources said that further talks would be based on the proposal made by the company.The lockout in the company during the last four months had affected the production of T90 battle tanks, the wheels of which are made out of AK6 aluminium alloy indigenously produced only at the Kerala facility.An embargo by its 200strong workforce on the movement of finished products from the Hindalco unit on December 23 and the ensuing decision of the company management to stop production on January 4 had resulted in 50 tonnes of finished specialgrade aluminium alloy being blockaded.
