BANGALORE: The High Court declined the State Government’s request to grant it six month’s time to conduct elections to the Wakf Board and directed the principal secretary of Minority Welfare Department to be present in the court with all related files to help the court to understand why the administrative officer appointed to the Wakf Board has not been changed from the last 18 months. The Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice H G Ramesh expressed its dissatisfaction about the State Government for not announcing the calendar to conduct elections to the Wakf Board as directed by it and directd the principal secretary to be present in the court on Thursday. It may be recalled here that L J Ali, the member of Karnataka Wakf Property Protection Force, had filed a writ petition requesting the court to direct the State Government to conduct elections to the Wakf Board.Ali had contended that the State Government had appointed an administrator to the board for a term of six months on January 16, 2010.After that it has not conducted elections to the Wakf Board though it was supposed to conduct elections within six months of the appointment.
