CHENNAI: HCL Technologies has partnered with the Chennai Police to launch a new programme for Boys Club, an initiative by the Chennai Police institutionalised in the year 1956 to provide guidance to youth from slums, as part of its community outreach programme.HCL Technologies has adopted 24 Police Boy Clubs out of the existing 131 clubs. HCL Technologies is the first company from the private sector to have partnered with the Chennai Police for the cause of slum adoption. This partnership was inaugurated at the Chennai SEZ premises of HCL Technologies recently. The major programmes launched will include strengthening education by focusing on tuitions, providing vocational training and sports coaching, spreading nutrition awareness and counselling on personality development. HCL shall undertake youth counselling and provide learning and skill development opportunities in these clubs. Out of the 24 clubs that have been adopted, support activities have already commenced in 19. During the launch, new activities such as distributing sports kits, computers, and T- Shirts were undertaken by HCL. Each Boys Club, comprising of approximately 100 children, will have a scout master and a caretaker to run their day-to-day activities. The approximate investment projected by the police is `2 lakhs per club.
