The Madras High Court has ordered notice on a writ petition praying for a direction to the government to remove the encroachments allegedly put up by Vel Tech Group of Institutions in Morai village in Tiruvallur district.
In his public interest writ petition, JVD Durai (80), former president of the Annamalai University Engineering & Technology Alumni Association Morai Industrial Estate Association, alleged that the institution had converted a large area of poromboke land at the village to patta lands with the help of bogus claimants and corrupt officials in the departments of Revenue, Survey & Settlement, and Land Administration.
More such attempts were still going on, petitioner further alleged, and prayed for an interim direction to the SP, CB CID, Chennai, to hold a detailed investigation on the issue and file a report to the court.
The main prayer was to direct the government authorities, including the Tiruvallur District Collector and tahsildar, Ambattur taluk, to remove the encroachments and restore the land as government grazing ground poromboke. When the matter came up before the first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice A Arumughasway last week, the Government Pleader took notice. The bench posted the matter after four weeks.
